GET SLANTED: WHO & WHY WE ARE

WHADDUP SEXY?!

Welcome to Slanted Tendency, the only queer adult entertainment production company focused entirely on people of color.

Queer people of color (people of African, Asian, Latino and Native decent) are beautiful, sexy, multi-dimensional and self-defined. The Slanted Tendency mission is to create stylish sexual scenarios that represent a wide range of queer identities, ages, ethnicities, body types and fantasies.

WE OUT HERE TRYING TO FUNCTION

The pornography industry claims a $14 billion dollar annual revenue. Since the technology boom and widespread use of the internet, the number of porn studios decreased while the number of independent producers increased. With independent people making porn at home according to their own tastes and the studios realizing that sexual appetites were much larger than the content they offered, more alternative porn came onto the scene showcasing tattoos, piercings, and kink from the sadomasochism and bondage/discipline lifestyles. Even with an explosion of new genres and expressions of sexuality, porn still needs people of color of every variety.

As a queer person of color who is sexually liberated, self defined and sexually adventurous, I knew many others just like me and had to say to myself: "Let's make our own hot porn! Let's create our own employment opportunities and represent ourselves!" Slanted Tendency started with my own personal resources, community support, and objectives intended to promote a healthier society.

GET SLANTED: TREATS FROM TRICK

bottom7 WHO’S YOUR DADDY?

My porn name is Trick. I chose this name because it's ambiguous in gender and it positively reclaims a negative stigma attached to sex workers. The name is also pretty humorous which helps put people at ease when I disclose my profession. I'm quite proud of the fact that I produce, star in and edit my own porn. I am a happy, healthy queer woman of color with a positive outlook on life and a quick sense of humor. I starred in my first porn way back in 1996 when I was 24 years old. It was produced by a young, queer woman of color who was a promising new filmmaker. Much like the content I create for Slanted Tendency, the intent was to show real queers of color of various ages and body types.

Shortly thereafter, I became friends with sex positive radical queers in San Francisco. It was a predominantly white group but myself and a couple of other queer women of color added diversity. We performed live sex shows for mainly female identified people at clubs and community spaces. The shows were creative, unique and will forever stand out in the minds of those who participated and attended. Although the shows were ground breaking, popular, and made a great impact at the time, unfortunately they were short lived.

I spent the next ten years diving into my own sexual experimentation. I was part of Shine Louise Houston's original Crash Pad Movie in 2006. At that point, I realized that sex and porn remained a consistent and an enjoyable part of my life. I continued to seek out projects and people that would nourish my adventurous sexual appetite. At the same time, I was aware that my job was stressful and I had a desperate need for more creative endeavors. The creation of Slanted Tendency was borne from multiple passions combining my love for sex, filmmaking, technology and my communities.

WHY DID THIS SHIT TAKE SO LONG?

I made my first attempts at filming in 2008. I was already in the mainstream entertainment industry as a union audio engineer so I learned quickly. Those first attempts proved to me that my technical expertise, communication skills, never-ending creativity, healthy sexual attitude, previous experience in sex work and positive community support were all the necessary ingredients for a successful business venture.

Slanted Tendency became a registered business in 2009. My union job gave me both the disposable income necessary to fund the venture and the time to film as many movies as possible throughout 2010. I had the minimal equipment required to film but not enough capital to buy the editing system and all the online support requirements. I decided that 2011 would be the year to raise capital and complete the escape from my 16 year audio engineering career. By the following year, I had moved to Los Angeles; bought the necessary editing system to complete the films; had a custom logo designed by a woman of color who was a freelance graphic designer; hired independent qpoc musicians to create custom soundtracks; copyrighted all my work; strengthened the backbone of the business; hired a marketing guru; and launched the website October 17, 2012.
